When Will the Royal Government of Bhutan Stop Selling Bitcoin?
Bhutan’s government has been steadily selling Bitcoin, moving more than $200 million of BTC since the start of 2026 and reducing holdings from an estimated peak of ~13,000 BTC in late 2024 to roughly 3,400–3,800 BTC today. On-chain data shows ~9,579 BTC sold since the peak, typically in modest $5–$10m batches (latest: 100 BTC ≈ $7.8m), suggesting a managed monetisation strategy to limit market disruption. Mining inflows have largely stopped, removing a replenishment source. Analysts estimate the remaining reserve could be exhausted by around October 2026 if current selling continues — a dynamic that may weigh on Bitcoin supply expectations and downside risks to price until sales slow or policy changes.
