WBTC Prepares Migration to New Reserve Custody Addresses Amid Long-Term Security Reviews

Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) is preparing to migrate its Bitcoin reserve custody to new Custodian Bitcoin Deposit Addresses (CBDAs) to upgrade its infrastructure and address long-term operational and cryptographic risks. The protocol currently maintains roughly 116,000 tokens in circulation, backed one-to-one by approximately $9.5 billion in Bitcoin held in institutional custody. Alongside the address transition to manage address exposure, WBTC is exploring a multi-custodian reserve model designed to diversify concentration risk and bolster operational resilience across decentralized finance applications.
