Volkswagen announces voice AI in its Chinese cars from later this year

Volkswagen said it will roll out on-device, LLM-based voice AI agents across all vehicles using its China car system starting in the second half of 2026, drawing on technology from Tencent, Alibaba and Baidu. The move — part of a broader push to regain market share in China — complements partnerships and stakes in Xpeng and Horizon Robotics and a decision to use Xpeng’s Turing chip (not Nvidia) in at least one SUV due for deliveries by end-June.
