Vitalik Buterin Says Consumer AI Boom Eases Running Ethereum Home Nodes

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin stated that running local Ethereum nodes has become significantly easier, driven by consumer AI hardware adoption and protocol upgrades. Technical improvements such as EIP-4444 and snap sync optimizations have cut full node synchronization times to roughly 12 hours. Buterin revealed his pruned Geth node occupies just 461 GiB of storage, keeping requirements below 0.5 TB and enabling standard local AI workstations to handle blockchain validation. While official guidelines still recommend 2 TB NVMe drives for future state growth, the lower hardware barriers boost network decentralization by reducing reliance on centralized RPC providers.
