Violent Physical Attacks on Bitcoin Holders Surge Globally as Prices Rally

Physical attacks targeting cryptocurrency holders have intensified globally alongside an approximate 45% surge in Bitcoin prices during the third quarter of 2026. Casa Chief Security Officer Jameson Lopp launched an interactive dashboard mapping 360 documented attacks worldwide, while security firm Gart recorded 391 incidents across 59 countries. France leads globally with 68 recorded incidents, including 41 in the first nine months of 2026 alone. The rise in violence—averaging over one attack weekly in 2025 and 23 cases in early 2026—is driving adoption of multi-signature custody, time locks, and distributed key management.
