Us regulator: no chance of crypto seizure in the US

CFTC Chair Michael Selig said in May 2026 that a government seizure or blanket ban on cryptocurrencies is “virtually” impossible, stressing that protecting digital-asset ownership and self-custody is a top regulatory priority. He highlighted recent and pending U.S. legislation — the Genius Act (stablecoins now law) and the Clarity Act (pending) — as frameworks to provide certainty and prevent banking exclusions of crypto firms. The CFTC classifies Bitcoin, Ether, Solana and Zcash as “digital commodities,” and the administration has issued permissions to self-custodial wallet providers. The comments reduce regulatory tail risk and should bolster market confidence in crypto ownership rights, supporting price sentiment for major tokens and encouraging continued development and public participation in rulemaking.
