US Producer Prices Surge 1.3% in September as Annual Inflation Hits 6.3%

United States wholesale inflation accelerated sharply in September, driven by surging energy costs and broad-based pipeline pressures. The headline Producer Price Index jumped 1.3% month-over-month, marking its largest increase since March 2022 and exceeding economist forecasts of 0.5% to 0.6%. On an annual basis, headline PPI climbed to 6.3%, well above projections of 5.3% and August's revised 5.6% pace. Core PPI excluding food and energy climbed 0.7% on the month and 5.0% year-over-year, beating expectations and dampening broader equity market sentiment amid expectations of tighter monetary policy.
