US Private Employers Add 90,000 Jobs in September, Topping Expectations

U.S. private sector employment increased by 90,000 jobs in September, exceeding consensus forecasts of 70,000, according to the ADP National Employment Report. The reading accelerated from August additions, cited between 36,000 and 38,000, ending a three-month hiring slowdown. Job gains were heavily concentrated, led by education and health services with 55,000 additions and leisure and hospitality with 22,000. Goods producers added 31,000 jobs, including 17,000 in manufacturing. However, white-collar sectors contracted, as financial activities shed 16,000 roles and professional and business services lost 11,000 positions.
