US Enacts Import Ban on Canadian Alcohol, Dairy, and Motorcycles

A United States import ban targeting Canadian alcohol, dairy, and motorcycles has taken effect, compounding an ongoing trade conflict between the two countries. The prohibition halts new shipments of Canadian-bottled alcoholic beverages, affecting roughly C$1bn ($710m) in liquor exports, alongside whey products and C$120m in motorcycle exports. However, existing US inventories may still be sold, and bulk imports bottled domestically remain permitted. The measures follow executive orders signed by Donald Trump in retaliation against Canada's tariffs on over 700 US products, adding to existing 50% tariffs on dairy, steel, and aluminum.
