US Dollar vs Yen Ticks Above 157 on Japan Intervention Warning

US Dollar vs Japanese Yen has climbed back above 157.00 after a Ministry of Finance official warned of more intervention if needed, capping downside amid holiday-thinned trading and Tokyo CPI misses. The pair had surged above 160 toward 160.40 on April 30 following Axios reports of US CENTCOM briefing military options against Iran, boosting Brent crude to war highs and reversing April 28's BOJ hawkish hold (0.75% rate, 6-3 vote, FY2026 core CPI to 2.8% from 1.9%) that pressured it lower. Earlier April 27 swings eased on Iran's Hormuz proposal but reignited on Bab al-Mandab attacks. Markets eye BOJ Governor Ueda's June 3 speech.
