US Becomes Net Bitcoin Importer for First Time Since 2022 on Institutional Flows

The United States transitioned into a net importer of bitcoin for the first time since 2022 during the 12 months ending June 2026, according to Chainalysis. The shift was driven by institutional transfers exceeding $10 million, which contributed a net influx of 53,200 bitcoin valued at roughly $4.3 billion. In contrast, retail transactions below $10,000 posted net outbound flows. The influx occurred even as the U.S. crypto economy slipped 2.2% to $2.78 trillion, bolstered by U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs accumulating $55.44 billion in net inflows since their January 2024 launch.
