University Endowments Post Strongest Gains Since 2021 Driven by SpaceX and AI

Major U.S. university endowments recorded their strongest annual performance since 2021, lifted by surging valuations in private technology assets, including SpaceX and artificial intelligence. For the fiscal year ending June 30, Harvard University reported a 27.1% return, expanding its endowment to approximately $68 billion, with private equity and venture capital reaching 46% of its portfolio. Other institutions reported even higher returns, led by the University of North Carolina system at 37.8%, with roughly half attributed to SpaceX, followed by Washington University in St. Louis at 37.3% and Stanford University at 31.7%.
