Trump’s Financial Disclosure Reveals a Personal Stake in Musk’s SpaceX (SPCX)
A public financial disclosure revealed that President Donald Trump acquired between $15,001 and $50,000 in Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SPCX) shares on June 23, approximately two weeks after the company's historic initial public offering. The IPO, which was the largest in U.S. history, valued SpaceX at $1.77 trillion with an initial offering price of $135 per share. The White House stated that the president's investment portfolio is managed independently by third-party financial institutions without personal direction or family input. Nonetheless, market observers noted the symbolic nature of the purchase, reflecting a favorable policy backdrop for commercial space exploration while simultaneously raising potential conflict-of-interest scrutiny due to SpaceX's extensive federal contracts. Following the IPO, SpaceX shares experienced price fluctuations, closing at $156.11 on the purchase date before retreating toward the $135 baseline. Second-quarter data showed that 119 hedge funds held aggregate positions in SpaceX valued at $116.45 billion.
