Treasurer Chalmers Warns Geopolitical Turmoil Drives Higher Yields and Upcoming Australian Budget Cuts

While Chalmers maintained that Australia will avoid a recession, persistent global energy shocks have intensified domestic cost-of-living pressures. This follows the Reserve Bank of Australia lifting its benchmark cash rate to 4.6%, a 15-year peak and its highest level since 2011, after annual consumer price inflation accelerated to 4.0% in August from 3.5%.
