Transportation Secretary Duffy and Airlines Press Congress for $30 Billion Aviation Funding Package

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, joined by major airlines and industry unions, is urging Congress to approve an additional $30 billion to modernize air traffic control infrastructure and airport facilities. The proposal, introduced by Republican Senator Eric Schmitt, allocates approximately $10 billion to replace aging control towers and another $10 billion for telecommunications and software upgrades. This initiative builds on a $12.5 billion five-year package approved in June 2025, prompted by a January 2025 collision at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and a recent East Coast telecommunications outage.
