Three Liberian-Flagged Tankers Struck by Projectiles in Strait of Hormuz
Three Liberian-flagged oil tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz have been struck by unknown projectiles, according to maritime intelligence firm Marisks and the UKMTO. The attacks targeted the products tanker Al Ruwais, the very large crude carrier Mersin Prosperity, and the Aframax tanker Sinbad, all of which had disabled their Automatic Identification System transponders. One strike ignited a projectile-induced fire that was subsequently extinguished, and no crew casualties were reported. The Mersin Prosperity had recently transferred 2 million barrels of Iraqi Basrah crude off Oman in mid-September.
