Tether Mints Nearly $494.6 Million in Gold-Backed XAUT Tokens

Tether has minted $494,574,412 worth of its gold-backed stablecoin, XAUT, expanding the circulating supply of tokenized precious metals. Each token is backed one-to-one by a fine troy ounce of physical gold stored in Swiss vaults. The creation surpasses an earlier issuance of approximately $437 million completed in August 2025. It comes amid rapid expansion in the broader tokenized gold sector, which grew from roughly $2.5 billion in September 2025 to $5.27 billion in early 2026, with XAUT accounting for about half of the total market capitalization.
