Tether Completes SoftBank Buyout for Full Control of Twenty One Capital

Tether International has acquired SoftBank’s full stake in NYSE-listed Twenty One Capital (XXI), securing sole ownership of the Bitcoin treasury vehicle holding 43,514 BTC. The May 20, 2026 transaction ended shared governance that began with the firm’s 2025 launch and prompted immediate resignations by SoftBank board members. Tether, which contributed over 36,000 BTC including a prior 4,812 BTC addition, can now advance plans for a vertically integrated platform encompassing treasury, mining, lending, payments and potential mergers with Strike and Elektron Energy. The consolidation concentrates large-scale corporate Bitcoin holdings under the stablecoin issuer and is viewed as supportive for institutional BTC demand.
