Tether-Backed Adecoagro Sets July 1 Launch for Sugarcane Bitcoin Mine in Brazil
Adecoagro, now majority-owned by Tether after a roughly $600 million all-cash acquisition, will begin a 10 MW sugarcane bagasse-powered Bitcoin mining pilot on July 1, 2026 in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. The initial phase will deploy about 1,280 mining rigs using the company’s existing 230 MW renewable infrastructure across South America. Tether is supplying mining expertise and its Mining OS to monetize surplus industrial energy while improving grid stability and ESG credentials. The project strengthens Bitcoin’s sustainability narrative and could encourage wider institutional adoption of renewables-backed mining.
