Tesla Unveils Accordion Supercharger to Cut Costs by 20% Amid BYD Rivalry
Tesla has introduced its Accordion Supercharger system, a pre-assembled modular unit intended to reduce installation costs by roughly 20% compared to traditional stations. Shipped with up to 16 stalls per semi-truck, the infrastructure enables rapid deployment in urban and retail lots without extensive trenching or on-site technicians. The initiative comes as Tesla works to revive its network growth, which halved following earlier team layoffs from its prior pace exceeding 35%. Meanwhile, competitor BYD is mounting rapid expansion, having deployed 10,000 charging stations across 320 Chinese cities in five months on its way to adding about 40,000 points this year.
