Synaptics Brings Tactile Sensing and Edge AI to NVIDIA Isaac Sim and Holoscan

Synaptics Incorporated has announced that its Capacitive Tactile Sensing (CTS) module and Astra Edge AI processors are now supported by NVIDIA's robotics simulation framework, Isaac Sim, and the NVIDIA Holoscan platform. The integration is designed to enhance tactile perception and sensor processing for dexterous robotic hands, humanoids, grippers, and broader Physical AI systems. The solution enables developers to simulate realistic touch interactions, generate synthetic sensor data, and validate perception algorithms prior to physical deployment. The CTS module, driven by the SN6012T touch controller, features a 2.5mm pitch taxel density with a 5x12 taxel array, measuring force ranges up to 100N with 0.1N resolution and offering a rebound response ten times faster than conventional foam sensors. Synaptics' Astra processors aggregate tactile, vision, and motion data into unified streams delivered over standard Ethernet to offload central compute systems. This collaboration reinforces NVIDIA's expanding robotics ecosystem and platform dominance in physical AI simulation and edge computing. By lowering hardware integration barriers and accelerating developer validation cycles, the partnership strengthens NVIDIA's software-hardware stack for commercial robotics adoption.
