Stripe doubles down on blockchain and stablecoins, aiming to become 'AWS for money'

Stripe is integrating stablecoins and blockchain across its payments stack to become an “AWS for money,” aiming to speed global settlement and make on‑ and off‑chain transfers seamless. The firm — which processes nearly $2 trillion a year and serves 5+ million businesses — has acquired Bridge (stablecoin infra) and Privy (wallets), and helped launch the payments‑focused Tempo blockchain with partners including Mastercard, UBS, Klarna and Visa. Stripe is rolling out stablecoin checkout and payout features and targets emerging markets and cross‑border use cases where cards and banking rails underperform. Market impact: faster settlement and broader stablecoin utility could raise crypto payment volumes, reduce friction for cross‑border flows, and be supportive for crypto adoption and liquidity (including bitcoin).
