Starbase Louisiana Set to Become SpaceX's Largest Launch Site in $100 Billion Bet

SpaceX and Louisiana state officials have announced a massive $100 billion investment to construct the company's largest spaceport to date in Vermilion Parish. Construction on the expansive coastal facility is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the initial orbital launch targeted for as early as 2029. Designed to support thousands of launches annually and over 30 Starship flights per day, the facility will host five launch complexes equipped with dual pads and propellant infrastructure. The project is expected to deliver significant economic benefits to Louisiana, creating approximately 3,000 direct jobs with an average annual salary of $92,600, along with an estimated 8,100 indirect regional positions. Under a Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) framework, SpaceX will contribute $20 million upfront and $25 million annually for 25 years, generating over $820 million in local public revenue. Following the announcement, SpaceX shares rose approximately 2.9% to close at $137.95, while Wall Street analysts maintained bullish targets, such as JPMorgan's $240 price target. The ambitious development solidifies SpaceX's long-term commercial spaceflight cadence while boosting industrial growth in the Gulf Coast region.
