SpaceX Weighting More Than Doubles in Nasdaq-100 Rebalance, Triggering Billions in Passive Inflows
Passive index funds are executing mandatory purchases of SpaceX equity after the company's weighting in the Nasdaq-100 index more than doubled from 1.28% to 2.82%. The quarterly adjustment, which took effect September 21, aligns the benchmark with SpaceX's $2 trillion market capitalization as its seventh-largest constituent. Analysts estimate the shift will generate $15.5 billion to $22 billion in passive inflows from over 200 funds tracking more than $800 billion in assets. The structural buying comes as post-IPO lockup expirations expand SpaceX's tradable float to about 3.7 billion shares, with further unlocks scheduled through late 2026.
