SpaceX (SPCX) is Hiring for Natural Gas Trading to Back Up Energy Needs

Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SPCX) is recruiting a natural gas trader to build and lead a dedicated in-house trading desk handling physical and financial transactions. The strategic move is designed to support the company's escalating fuel and power requirements, specifically to secure fuel for its methane-powered Starship rocket and supply electricity to a planned gas-fired power plant supporting a major semiconductor manufacturing facility in Texas co-developed with Tesla. According to company management, SpaceX also plans to construct proprietary gas pipelines and explore direct natural gas drilling. By taking direct ownership of its energy supply chain, SpaceX aims to insulate launch economics from volatile commodity market swings and replicate Elon Musk's vertically integrated supply-chain playbook seen across his other ventures. However, the ambitious expansion introduces operational and regulatory hurdles. Physical infrastructure such as pipelines, wells, and power plants requires extensive permitting and local approvals, and the company already faces legal challenges from residents near its Starbase site in Texas. Entering the complex commodities trading landscape also introduces price volatility and execution risks.
