SpaceX Agrees to NYC Council AI Safety Hearing After Subpoena Enforcement Threat
SpaceX shares fell 4% to $156.69 after the company agreed to testify Friday before the New York City Council's technology committee regarding artificial intelligence safety risks. The appearance follows a September 28 subpoena issued to CEO Elon Musk and SpaceX's AI division after the company skipped an October 5 hearing attended by Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and Meta. After the council threatened enforcement through the New York State Supreme Court, Council Speaker Julie Menin confirmed SpaceX will send a representative. Scrutiny mounted after SpaceX incorporated xAI in February and acquired Cursor for $60 billion in August.
