Solana’s Founder Warns AI Could Crack Post-Quantum Cryptography Schemes

Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko warned that AI could break post-quantum cryptography (PQC) signature schemes before the industry fully understands their math and implementation risks, posing a security threat to crypto wallets. He recommends native support for two-of-three multisig across independent signature schemes (including via Solana Program Derived Addresses) to reduce exposure. Galaxy Digital’s Alex Thorn said Bitcoin stakeholders are coalescing around leaving Satoshi’s estimated 1.1M BTC untouched, noting those coins sit in roughly 22,000 P2PK addresses and any long-range attack would need to crack each address. Markets may be able to absorb large sell pressure, and exchanges can proactively migrate to PQC addresses, so near-term market impact is mitigated but risk remains significant.
