Singapore Rolls Out Gold Hub Measures to Challenge London Dominance
Singapore is advancing its bid to become Asia’s leading gold-trading hub on 15 June 2026 by removing regulatory barriers and building new infrastructure. The Monetary Authority of Singapore is scrapping the 5% cap on physical precious-metals holdings for funds and family offices, while the SGX prepares an OTC clearing system for Loco Singapore gold by year-end with six founding banks. MAS will also launch central-bank gold vaulting from October and is studying physically deliverable futures, directly targeting the 70% of global gold demand that originates in Asia and aiming to shift price discovery away from London and New York during Asian hours.
