Silver prices today, Monday, September 14, 2026: Silver slides as rate-hike expectations grow

Silver futures experienced a downward slide, opening at $64.79 per ounce on Monday before declining further to $63.35 in early morning trading. The precious metal extended losses following geopolitical escalation in the Middle East over the weekend, where a critical Saudi Arabian oil pipeline was attacked and damaged. The escalating conflict has heightened supply disruption concerns, driving global oil prices higher and intensifying inflationary pressures. In response to mounting energy-driven inflation risks, market expectations for a Federal Reserve interest rate hike increased sharply. According to the CME Group's FedWatch tool, the probability of an upcoming rate hike rose to 86.5%, up from 69.4% on Friday. Higher interest rate expectations are weighing directly on non-yielding assets, putting downward pressure on silver prices in the near term despite its substantial 55.7% year-over-year price growth.
