Samsung Gets $250 For Every iPhone Duo You Buy

Apple has entered into a three-year supplier agreement with rival Samsung Display to supply foldable screens for its new $2,000 iPhone Duo. Due to rival manufacturers failing to meet Apple's stringent quality standards, Apple was forced to accept Samsung as its sole supplier. The contract requires Apple to pay approximately $250 per display panel, which is more than triple the roughly $70 cost of a standard iPhone display and represents over 10% of the device's retail price. Citi estimates that Apple will sell around 7.3 million iPhone Duo units during its first year on the market. This projection translates to nearly $1.8 billion in revenue directed straight to Samsung Display, strengthening Apple's primary smartphone competitor. Despite the significant supplier dependency and component costs, Apple's stock (AAPL) gained approximately 1.9% to trade near $332, rebounding swiftly after its initial keynote dip and trading near record highs under new CEO John Ternus.
