S&P Consults on Six-Month Fast-Track as SpaceX IPO Nears June 12
S&P Dow Jones opened formal consultation to waive profitability and seasoning rules, allowing mega-cap IPOs such as SpaceX into the S&P 500 after only six months. The move follows weeks of warnings that SpaceX’s June 12 debut at a $1.75–2 trillion valuation, alongside Anthropic and OpenAI, could add $3 trillion in market cap and force index funds to absorb large positions. Earlier Deutsche Bank analysis flagged a modest 1% downside risk from supply pressure; the latest proposal would permanently alter inclusion standards for SPY, VOO and QQQ holders. Investors have begun rotating out of AI names ahead of the listing.
