S&P 500 Q3 Earnings Preview: Earnings and Revenue Growth Expected to Surge

According to the latest Zacks Earnings Trends report, corporate earnings for the S&P 500 are poised for substantial acceleration in the third quarter. Total S&P 500 earnings are projected to surge by 23.0% year-over-year, supported by an 11.1% increase in aggregate revenues. This performance marks one of the most broad-based earnings expansions in recent history, offering strong fundamental support for broader market momentum. Market breadth across industries remains robust, with 14 out of 16 Zacks sectors anticipated to record positive earnings growth, and six sectors forecasted to deliver double-digit gains. Only Conglomerates, projected to fall 35.4%, and Consumer Staples, expected to decline 0.1%, are anticipated to see year-over-year profit contractions during the quarter. The Technology sector continues to serve as the dominant growth engine, with total sector earnings expected to jump 40.5%. Major tech leaders including Alphabet, Micron, and Nvidia represent critical contributors to the aggregate expansion; excluding these three companies, Tech sector earnings growth would moderate to 18.7%. Furthermore, favorable upward revisions are supporting a positive outlook heading into the final quarter.
