Russia Sanctions British Teen Exposing A7A5 Stablecoin Sanctions Bypass

Russia has sanctioned 17-year-old British researcher Alexander Browder for exposing A7A5 stablecoin use in sanctions evasion, with the token processing over $110 billion on-chain. The story began May 19 with a regional crypto-mining ban in Kursk over energy shortages, escalated May 24-26 when the UK first applied Regulation 17A sanctions to HTX/Huobi over A7 ties, and prompted Binance, OKX and others to tighten AML screening. A7A5 reportedly moved nearly $100 billion for sanctioned entities while A7 warned Western pressure is driving Russia toward fully independent crypto rails; lawmakers now advance a bill that could ban unlicensed platforms from July 2027.
