Ross Gerber Recommends Tesla Owners Let TSLA ‘Take The Risk' In Elon Musk's Airbnb-Like Robotaxi Program
Prominent investor and Gerber Kawasaki co-founder Ross Gerber has advised Tesla Inc. vehicle owners against participating in Elon Musk's planned Airbnb-style Robotaxi and Cybercab fleet program. Analyzing the operational framework of the service, Gerber highlighted that Tesla's proposed model transfers pricing and operational risks directly onto third-party fleet managers and individual car owners, rather than keeping the liabilities on Tesla's balance sheet. Under the anticipated structure, Tesla is expected to sell the Cybercabs, charge fees to manage the network platform, and take an estimated 20% to 30% cut of gross revenues, comparable to Airbnb's marketplace economics. While this capital-light approach reduces Tesla's capital expenditure needs to scale the autonomous network, Gerber cautioned that car owners could face severe vehicle depreciation and low utilization risks. Following the commentary, TSLA shares traded modestly higher in overnight sessions near $355.99.
