Owning a Whole Bitcoin Is 70-Times Rarer Than Being a Millionaire

According to new estimates from Bitcoin financial services firm River, approximately 825,000 individuals globally own at least one full Bitcoin (BTC), representing a plausible range between 600,000 and 1,000,000 holders. This calculation contrasts sharply with the world's estimated 57.5 million millionaires, making whole Bitcoin ownership roughly 70 times rarer than achieving millionaire status. In terms of population odds, holding a whole coin is approximately a 1-in-10,000 occurrence worldwide, compared to a 1-in-143 chance of being a millionaire. River derived these figures by analyzing public blockchain addresses—adjusting the raw tally of 972,000 addresses by excluding institutional holders, ETFs, corporate treasuries, and exchanges. With roughly 20.1 million of Bitcoin's hard-capped 21 million supply already mined and traded around $79,134, retail accessibility to whole coins continues to contract. As institutional demand and ETF accumulation grow, the pool of whole-coin holders is projected to diminish further, reinforcing long-term asset scarcity.
