NYDFS and EBA Sign Agreement to Collaborate on Stablecoin Regulation

The NYDFS and the European Banking Authority signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to cooperate on stablecoin regulation, formalizing information-sharing and supervisory coordination between the U.S. (New York) and the EU. The agreement, aligned with the EBA’s role in implementing MiCA, aims to close cross-border regulatory gaps for stablecoin issuers, improve oversight of firms operating in both jurisdictions, and reduce legal uncertainty. For market participants, this could mean more predictable compliance regimes and potentially greater investor and consumer confidence in stablecoins — a constructive development for crypto markets generally — while also raising the prospect of more coordinated and thorough regulatory examinations for issuers.
