Nvidia introduces 800 VDC power system for AI data centers

Nvidia unveiled an 800-volt direct current (800 VDC) power distribution system for AI data centers, designed to cut power conversion losses and improve compute performance and power density. The company built the architecture with Google and Microsoft via the Open Compute Project, and says more than 80 equipment makers and infrastructure firms are already developing products to the new specification. Nvidia plans an MGX-compatible 800 VDC power rack in 2H 2026, followed by a row power center in 2027 capable of supporting up to 2 megawatts per row, with a longer-term facility-scale DC power block for new builds. The announcement reinforces Nvidia’s position as a central infrastructure provider in AI and could support sentiment toward AI-related hardware, data-center supply-chain companies, and broader AI capex spending.
