NSE, Augmont partner to expand Electronic Gold Receipts ecosystem

NSE has partnered with Augmont Enterprises to expand India’s Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) ecosystem, a SEBI-regulated framework that turns physical gold into dematerialised, exchange-tradable securities. The move aims to unlock an estimated 30,000-35,000 tonnes of household gold, improve liquidity, enable pledging, redemption and lending, and create a transparent marketplace for gold price discovery. If adopted broadly, EGRs could channel idle domestic gold toward jewellery manufacturers via the SLB mechanism, potentially reducing India’s dependence on gold imports and easing pressure on the current account deficit. Augmont will support the rollout with its user base, jeweller network and retail touchpoints, positioning the initiative as a structural shift for bullion trading in India.
