Nine Crypto Firms Form Quantum Alliance as 30.2% of Bitcoin Supply Faces Threat

Nine cryptocurrency companies have launched the Quantum Alliance to build unified security standards and migration frameworks for blockchain networks including Bitcoin and Ethereum. The move follows warnings that roughly 30.2% of circulating Bitcoin—estimated between 6.04 million and 6.4 million coins, including 1.1 million linked to Satoshi Nakamoto—have exposed public keys vulnerable to future quantum computers. Although current quantum systems cannot break existing cryptography, researchers project viable attack capabilities could arrive as early as 2028. Upgrades face governance debates and coordination hurdles across miners, developers, and node operators.
