Nikkei 225 Closes at Record 65,916 on Chip-Led Tech Rally

On May 27 the Nikkei 225 closed at a fresh record 65,916.03, up 1.42 percent, as AI-related chip stocks Tokyo Electron and Advantest each surged more than 5 percent. The advance extended the May 25 breakthrough when the index first pierced 65,000, closing at 65,158 after jumping 2.87 percent on plunging oil prices and optimism over U.S.-Iran diplomatic talks. Gains were supported by record closes in U.S. tech indices and softer Japanese producer-price data, although banks and real-estate shares lagged and market breadth remained narrow.
