Mt. Gox Extends Bitcoin Creditor Repayment Deadline to October 2027

Mt. Gox rehabilitation trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi announced a court-approved one-year extension of the creditor repayment deadline from October 31, 2026, to October 31, 2027. The postponement, marking the fourth consecutive annual delay, was prompted by incomplete creditor procedures, administrative issues, and processing delays. While distributions began in July 2024 and reached over 19,500 creditors by early 2025, the defunct exchange still holds an estimated 34,000 to 34,500 BTC valued at approximately $2.8 billion. The extension delays the resolution of the exchange, which collapsed in 2014, while easing near-term selling overhang in the bitcoin market.
