MN8 Energy, Google, and Eos Energy Enterprises Bring Advanced Clean Energy Solutions to West Virginia

MN8 Energy, Google (Alphabet Inc.), and Eos Energy Enterprises have entered into a strategic collaboration to deploy an integrated clean energy and storage facility in Kanawha County, West Virginia. Designed to supply dependable, round-the-clock power to the PJM grid and support expanding power demand from Google's regional data centers, the Mammoth Solar project combines 86 MW of utility-scale solar, 70 MW/280 MWh of lithium-ion battery storage, and 10 MW/100 MWh of zinc-based long-duration energy storage (LDES). Under the agreement, Google will off-take the power, capacity, and environmental attributes from the project. Commercial operations are slated to roll out in phases: the solar facility is projected to come online in 2028, followed by lithium-ion storage in 2029 and long-duration storage in 2030. Representing up to $350 million in capital investment, the project also demonstrates growing tech sector demand for innovative, dispatchable grid capacity to support high-intensity AI and cloud computing infrastructure.
