Microsoft takes Agent 365 out of preview as shadow AI becomes an enterprise threat

Microsoft moved Agent 365 from preview to general availability (blogged May 1, 2026), positioning the company as a central governance layer for enterprise AI agents. Priced at $15 per user per month or included in Microsoft 365 E7, Agent 365 centralizes discovery, policy controls and runtime blocking across endpoints, cloud platforms (AWS Bedrock, Google Cloud), and partner SaaS. Integration with Intune, Defender and Entra and a partner network (Adobe, SAP, Nvidia, Accenture, etc.) gives Microsoft a cross-surface advantage versus rivals. Features coming in June include Defender asset-context mapping and expanded local-agent discovery (18 agent types by June 2026). For markets, Agent 365 could increase enterprise security spend with Microsoft, boost product stickiness and recurring revenue, and reinforce Microsoft’s leadership in endpoint-to-cloud management — a generally positive development for MSFT shares.
