Microsoft starts merging its Copilot consumer and business apps in advance of ‘Super App' rollout
Microsoft is merging its consumer and business Copilot apps into a single Microsoft Copilot experience as a precursor to a broader “Super App” that will combine chat, AI coding, Cowork and AutoPilot agents. The move aims to simplify Microsoft’s fragmented AI branding, improve adoption, and better compete with ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude. The rollout begins with Windows Insiders and expands across mobile, web, Windows and Mac through mid-September. Some consumer features, including Podcasts, Group Chat and Deep Research, are being removed or restricted, while business users will see mostly cosmetic changes. Microsoft says personal and work data will remain separated and existing enterprise controls will stay intact. The unification supports Microsoft’s AI monetization push: Microsoft 365 Copilot has surpassed 30 million paid seats, but consumer usage still trails ChatGPT by a wide margin. Market impact is primarily strategic, reinforcing Microsoft’s position in enterprise AI and potentially supporting longer-term monetization and investor confidence in its AI platform roadmap.
