Microsoft Shifts Communications Department Under President Brad Smith in Leadership Restructuring
Microsoft is reorganizing its communications department by transferring oversight to Vice Chair and President Brad Smith as Chief Communications Officer Frank X. Shaw plans to depart at year-end. Under the shift, communications moves out of the marketing division, formerly overseen by Chief Marketing Officer Takeshi Numoto, and joins the Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs group. Brent Colburn has stepped in as interim communications leader through December reporting to Smith, who is searching for a permanent successor. CEO Satya Nadella framed the changes as a pivot to 'build in public' and align messaging with legal and regulatory strategies.
