Michael Saylor Urges US Regulatory Reforms to Enable Bank Bitcoin Custody and Lending
Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor has called on US regulators to enact reforms enabling banks to custody Bitcoin and issue Bitcoin-backed loans, projecting the digital asset industry could expand to $100 trillion. Speaking after the US Senate narrowly rejected the CLARITY Act on September 15 in a 49-50 vote, Saylor urged agencies including the SEC, CFTC, and Treasury to prioritize a Bill of Digital Rights rather than waiting for congressional legislation. He also criticized the Basel framework's 1,250% risk-weight capital charge, noting that $10 billion to $100 billion in bank credit could absorb Bitcoin's annual organic supply.
