Miami Federal Judge Sentences Canadian Man to 25 Months for $13M Bitcoin Theft

A Miami federal judge sentenced 20-year-old Canadian national Trenton Johnston to 25 months in prison for his role in a cryptocurrency theft scheme exceeding $13 million, though an earlier report cited time served. Prosecutors had recommended 51 to 63 months following Johnston's guilty plea to conspiracy to commit money laundering. Johnston and conspirators used fake Google and Trezor support calls to compromise accounts, including draining 185 Bitcoin worth nearly $13 million from a California victim in March. Following Johnston's cooperation, authorities recovered approximately $3.8 million in Bitcoin (53.16 BTC) and Ethereum (275.23 ETH).
