Metaplanet launches Hong Kong asset-management subsidiary focused on Bitcoin investments

Tokyo-listed Metaplanet has established a new wholly-owned subsidiary in Hong Kong, Metaplanet Asset Management Asia Limited, dedicated to Bitcoin-backed asset management. Approved on September 11 with an initial capitalization of $1 million, the entity will trade Bitcoin, Bitcoin-focused equities, preferred securities, and credit products. This move is part of the company's broader 'Project Nova' initiative, aimed at transforming the firm from a passive corporate Bitcoin holder into a comprehensive, Bitcoin-centric financial platform across capital markets and asset management. The Hong Kong office complements Metaplanet's Miami subsidiary established in March 2026, enabling round-the-clock coverage across Asian and US market trading hours. As of June 30, 2026, Metaplanet held roughly 43,000 BTC acquired at an average purchase price of $95,209 per coin, making it the largest corporate Bitcoin treasury in Asia. In parallel, the company disclosed a 41.1% reduction in its executive stock-option pool to address shareholder dilution concerns, reflecting growing institutional maturation.
