Meta Rejects Allegations That Muse AI Accessed User Messages Without Authorization
Meta Platforms is actively disputing allegations that its new Muse AI agent accessed private Mac Messages without user permission. Executives Andy Stone and David Singleton insisted the integration requires explicit, multi-layer opt-in permissions, including macOS Full Disk Access, which cannot be circumvented. The pushback follows claims by Inc. columnist Jason Aten that Muse synced over 187,000 database rows despite permissions being disabled. Launched on September 8, Muse reached the No. 1 spot on the App Store and surpassed 2.5 million downloads by September 23, though Amazon blocked the agent on September 21 over credential concerns.
