Meta now lets AI agents handle the boring parts of WhatsApp Business setup

Meta Platforms has introduced a new Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, WhatsApp Business Tools MCP, designed to streamline and automate the setup and management of WhatsApp Business messaging via AI coding agents. Previously, developers were required to manually navigate multiple consoles, APIs, and configuration tools. The new integration enables AI assistants such as Claude, Cursor, Codex, and ChatGPT to communicate directly with the WhatsApp Business Platform to handle administrative workflows. Under the new architecture, AI agents can autonomously execute routine developer tasks, including creating business accounts, verifying phone numbers, provisioning Cloud API access, validating terms of service, and generating or editing message templates. Additionally, the system supports proactive monitoring and webhook troubleshooting through Meta's Social Technologies MCP, reducing developer friction and onboarding times. The deployment is part of Meta's broader strategy to expand developer-centric AI infrastructure and drive commercial enterprise adoption across its messaging ecosystem.
